Laboratory Description

The primary research focus of our laboratory is to investigate the potential immunomodulatory drugs or immunoregulatory genes in regulating T cell immune responses and their molecular mechanisms. We individually explore their potential therapeutic effects on clinical diseases such as viral immunity, autoimmune diseases, and tumor immunity through immunoregulation.

In the field of viral immunity, we primarily study the immune mechanisms and therapeutic strategies of severe inflammatory responses induced by Influenza A virus infection in the lungs (commonly referred to as cytokine storm). We utilize immunoregulatory methods to inhibit the infiltration of pathogenic Th17 cells into the lungs of influenza virus-infected mice and promote the generation of regulatory T cells. This research result consequently suppresses the inflammatory response in the lungs, achieving a therapeutic effect on severe pneumonia caused by the influenza virus.

Regarding autoimmune diseases, we focus on multiple sclerosis (MS) and type 1 diabetes (T1D). Using animal models of these autoimmune diseases, such as Experimental Autoimmune Encephalitis (EAE) and Non-obese Diabetic (NOD) mice, we evaluate the potential immunomodulatory substances or genes in regulating autoimmune T cells to achieve prevention and treatment effects for these diseases.

In tumor immunology, we primarily investigate the molecular mechanisms by which inflammatory responses within the tumor microenvironment induce the infiltration of immune suppressive cells that inhibit anti-tumor immune responses. We analyze these immune suppressive cells, such as regulatory T cells, and their roles in promoting cancer cell metastasis. Our research aims to understand the interactions between the immune system and cancer cells to develop strategies that enhance anti-tumor immune responses.
