Laboratory Overview

The laboratory focuses on molecular virology and virus–host interactions, particularly the molecular mechanisms of RNA viruses during early infection and the dynamic regulation of viral RNA within host cells.
Dr. Chin’s doctoral research used mosquito-borne RNA viruses (alphaviruses) as a model to investigate interactions between viral genomic RNA and host cell factors, exploring their spatiotemporal dynamics during infection. The study also examined the potential impacts on viral replication and host immune responses.
Research methods integrate molecular biology, cell biology, and high-resolution imaging techniques to elucidate the molecular basis of viral infection and host immune responses. The ultimate goal is to provide new insights into RNA virus infection mechanisms and inform strategies for disease prevention and control.
