On October 5, National Defense Medical University (NDMU) welcomed Distinguished Professor Kuei-Ru Chou of Taipei Medical University for a special lecture entitled “Trends in International University Rankings and Strategies for Medical Universities.” The session was chaired by NDMU President Major General Chih-Yuan Lin and provided our university leadership and colleagues with valuable insights into global university rankings and institutional development.

Professor Chou introduced major global university ranking systems, including QS, Times Higher Education (THE), and the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), and discussed their key indicators. She also shared perspectives on how universities can assess their strengths and future directions through research performance, teaching quality, internationalization, academic reputation, and international research collaboration.

The lecture provided NDMU with a valuable opportunity not only to better understand the evolving methodologies and trends of global university rankings, but also to reflect on the connections among research, education, and internationalization as we continue to strengthen our global academic visibility and competitiveness.

We sincerely thank Professor Chou for sharing her expertise and valuable perspectives with NDMU and for inspiring further discussion on our university’s internationalization and future development.
