Honoring Predecessors, Supporting the Next Generation
Jin-Zhong Scholarship
Remembering Our Roots, Moving Steadily Forward
💰 Background and Purpose
The birth of the "Jin-Zhong Scholarship" is filled with gratitude and respect for our predecessors. Initiated by Honorary Professor Hu You-Pu (P60), this scholarship was established to commemorate the selfless dedication of the former Directors of the School of Pharmacy, Professor Jin Ming-Ru (P34) and Professor Zhong Bing-Hong (P40). Through the joint efforts of Prof. Hu, Sinphar Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., and the International Education Foundation, a commitment was made to donate at least NT$1 million annually for the first five years. The purpose is not only to honor the two directors but also to reward faculty members dedicated to teaching and research, and to encourage both undergraduate and graduate students to strive for academic excellence.
Outstanding Contributions to Pharmacy and Biotechnology in Taiwan
💡
Professor Jin Ming-Ru (P34): Serving as the Chairman of Kingdom Pharmaceutical in 1972, he promoted the quality specifications and quantitative research of kainic acid, laying the foundation for the development of antiparasitic drugs. In 1974, he co-founded the "Chunghwa Pharmaceutical Foundation" with Professors Lu Zhi-De and Liu Kong-Le, aiming to assist the teaching and research development of the School of Pharmacy, cultivate faculty, and provide scholarships for outstanding talents to study abroad.
💡
Professor Zhong Bing-Hong (P40): Having held important positions in the Veterans Pharmaceutical Factory and Kingdom Pharmaceutical, he was a key driver in promoting Taiwan's GMP system. He implemented comprehensive validation operations from 1990 to 1992, established an inspection mechanism for overseas pharmaceutical factories from 1991 to 1992, and pushed for factory areas to meet international GMP standards in 1997. These achievements were important milestones in the internationalization of Taiwan's pharmaceutical industry.
🎓 Encouragement for Graduates and Full-time Graduate Students
[To Undergraduate Graduates]
The Jin-Zhong Scholarship has established an "Academic Excellence Scholarship for Graduates" for the undergraduate division, providing a scholarship of up to NT$30,000 each for the top two graduating students of the School of Pharmacy. This is a substantial commendation for the students' solid learning over the four years. We hope that graduates will carry this blessing and resource from their seniors, and move steadily forward to shine on their future paths in national exams and as pharmacists.
[To Full-time Master's and Doctoral Students]
To allow graduate students to focus on their research with peace of mind, the Jin-Zhong Scholarship has specially planned a "Graduate Fellowship," providing substantial subsidies of NT$3,000 per month per person for up to 15 Master's and Doctoral students annually. Priority is given to "full-time self-funded Master's students" and "full-time military-funded students." This long-term support relieves graduate students of financial worries, encouraging everyone to grasp this resource, fully devote themselves to laboratory work, and produce impactful academic papers.
