☀ Introduction ☀

The Institute of Biochemistry in the National Defense Medical Center is the basic teaching unit in charge of teaching courses such as General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology with Experiments. The development of teachers’ diversity not only covered a wide and fundamental range of courses, including enzyme kinetics, protein structure, metabolic regulation, calcium messages regulation, gene regulation, and protease associated with cancer, but also established a variety of research platforms to support the needs of all departments’ laboratories in the Institute. In response to the faculty deduction and lower kinetic energy in research, the Institute in recent years has established a good partnership in research and teaching with clinical teachers of the Tri-Service General Hospital. In facing the challenges of the future, in addition to continuing to nurture faculty and guide undergraduate students to join the research team, it is believed the strength of goodness should be combined with changing the status quo from the institutional structure dimension, to make full use of the research resources of institutes and hospitals, and to expand the role and kinetic energy of the research platform of the Institute.

☀ Mission ☀

The educational mission of the Master program of the Institute of Biochemistry, National Defense Medical Center, is to develop and enlighten the biomedical research talents on high quality to raise the academic standards and quality of medical services. Its educational visions are as follows:

  1. To train autonomous learning: Develop students’ independent thinking and life-long learning;
  2. To sophisticate the science education: Train students to develop scientific thinking and ability to solve problems using the scientific approach;
  3. To enhance professionalism: Intensify technology research and improve working literacy.

Educational objectives: The focus is on fostering systematic scientific thinking and spirit of research, to reserve the professional biomedical R&D personnel. In addition, the education key points of the Institute’s academic specialized development project are to nurture talents with abilities in professional teaching and independent research in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology, such as protein enzymes, information transmission, gene expression, bioinformatics, cancer biochemistry, etc.

☀ Goal ☀

  1. Train students’ expertise and research skills in biochemistry and molecular biology.
  2. Nurture students’ abilities in scientific reasoning and problem-solving.
  3. Cultivate personnel suited to teaching and research in biomedical and biotechnology as a career.
