Honoring Our Mentors, Supporting Our Students
Jin-Zhong Scholarship
Remembering Our Roots, Moving Forward Steadily
💰 Origin of the Scholarship
The "Jin-Zhong Scholarship" was born out of profound gratitude and respect for our predecessors. Initiated by Honorary Professor Oliver Yoa-Pu Hu (Class P60), this scholarship was established to commemorate the selfless dedication of former Department Chairs Prof. Ming-Ju Chin (Class P34) and Prof. Ping-Hung Chung (Class P40). Through the joint efforts of Prof. Hu, Syncore Bio Corp., and the International Education Foundation, a commitment was made to donate at least NT$1,000,000 annually for the first five years. The mission is not only to honor the two distinguished chairs but also to reward faculty dedicated to teaching and research, and to encourage both undergraduate and graduate students to strive for academic excellence.
Outstanding Contributions to Pharmacy and Biotech in Taiwan
💡
Prof. Ming-Ju Chin (Class P34): Appointed Chairman of Kingdom Pharmaceutical Co. in 1972, he promoted quality standards and quantitative research on kainic acid, laying the foundation for the R&D of anti-parasitic drugs. In 1974, alongside Prof. Chih-Te Lu and Prof. Kong-Le Liu, he co-founded the "Chinese Pharmacy Foundation" to support the teaching and research development of the Pharmacy Department, cultivate faculty, and provide scholarships for outstanding talents to study abroad.
💡
Prof. Ping-Hung Chung (Class P40): Serving in key positions at Veterans Pharmaceutical Plant and Kingdom Pharmaceutical, he was a pivotal figure in promoting Taiwan's GMP system. He implemented comprehensive validation operations from 1990 to 1992, established an overseas pharmaceutical plant inspection mechanism from 1991 to 1992, and pushed manufacturing facilities to meet international GMP standards in 1997. These achievements were significant milestones in the internationalization of Taiwan's pharmaceutical industry.
🎓 Encouragement for Graduates and Full-Time Graduate Students
[To Undergraduate Graduates]
The Jin-Zhong Scholarship established the "Outstanding Graduate Academic Achievement Award" for the undergraduate program, providing a scholarship of NT$30,000 each to the first and second-ranked students in the graduating class. This is a substantial recognition of their solid academic efforts over four years. We hope that graduates will carry these blessings and resources from their seniors and move forward steadily, shining brightly in their future national exams and careers as pharmacists.
[To Full-Time Master's and Ph.D. Students]
To allow graduate students to focus on their research with peace of mind, the Jin-Zhong Scholarship specifically designed a "Graduate Student Grant." It provides a monthly stipend of NT$3,000 for up to 15 Master's and Ph.D. students annually. Priority is given to "full-time civilian Master's students" and "full-time military-sponsored students." This long-term support alleviates financial worries, encouraging students to fully dedicate themselves to lab work and produce impactful academic papers.
